2009 Design Award

This Victorian Gothic Revival church, occupying a prominent position at the east end of the High Street and within the Musselburgh Conservation Area, has a beautiful exterior with a graceful spire and a pleasing interior. The decision to remove the original pews, to replace them with portable seats and to upgrade the interior so that more flexible use of the available space would be possible was bold, courageous and potentially controversial. However, the final result, combining new light coloured woodwork with sensitive redecoration of original features, is most impressive and has proved to work very successfully.
